DC Trans Coalition

"The DC Trans Coalition (DCTC) is a volunteer, grassroots community-based organization dedicated to fighting for human rights, dignity, and equal access for transsexual, transgender and gender-diverse people in the District of Columbia.

To this end, we organize in our local communities to spread awareness and change laws, policies and services to improve our lives and create a safer DC. We focus on issues that impact trans people who must face multiple kinds of oppression, like poverty and racism. We also work to educate our community to know our rights and be prepared to defend them by offering workshops and resources.

We use many strategies in our advocacy, from petitions and protests to working with government agencies and community-based service providers. The core organizing collective is made up of about ten volunteers. We do not accept funding except from grassroots fund-raisers and decisions are made by ad hoc consensus. Our meetings are open to any who support our work. We periodically hold community forums to make sure that as many people as possible, especially those who are most likely to encounter discrimination and violence, have a say in what we do and have a voice in shaping our demands, strategies and priorities.

Join us every first and third Tuesday of the month at the Whitman Walker Clinic’s Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center. We meet there at the Austin Center between 7:30 and 9:00 pm."
