GHRC/USA is a non-profit, non-partisan humanitarian organization committed to monitoring, documenting, and reporting the human rights situation in Guatemala, as well as to organizing specific project to advocate for and support communities affected by human rights violations in Guatemala.
GHRC/USA has a 20 year history of educating the U.S. public, media, policy makers, and non-governmental organizations about human rights in Guatemala. We publish the Human Rights UPDATE twice monthly, which includes the most recent information on human rights related issues in Guatemala, and in emergencies we issue URGENT ACTIONS to a broad network of organizations and individuals. Through the Information and Documentation Project, GHRC/USA has provided vital information for refugees seeking political asylum. Other current GHRC/USA projects include Puente’s de Paz, a women's community mental health program in rural Mayan villages in Guatemala; Coalition Missing, a group of U.S. citizens who seek to learn the truth about the violence committed against them and their family members in Guatemala; and the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition (TASSC), a coalition of survivors of torture who seek to end the practice of torture and ill-treatment worldwide. GHRC/USA has been the principal support organization for Jennifer Harbury and Sister Dianna Ortiz OSU, assisting in their efforts to learn the truth about their own cases and the role of the United States in human rights abuses in Guatemala.
