Heal Our Hood is addressing the problem of food deserts in Washington, D.C. Food deserts are areas where residents have very little access to fresh and whole foods, and are closer to fringe locations such as liquor stores, corner stores, and fast food chains. This marginalization has forced these communities to suffer from the highest rates of obesity and obesity related diseases in the city, substantially limiting the overall quality of life.
