Peter Maurin Center was established in 1997 to, in the words of Peter Maurin, contribute to creating a "society where it is easier to be good." The Center contributes to this in three ways:

*evangelization in the Catholic Worker tradition. Primary project is the Catholic Worker Book-store.

*The Works of Mercy. Primary project is a furniture and household goods exchange, whereby people who have more than they need, can give it to the Center which distributes it to needy people.

*Organizing for peace and justice. Primary projects involve solidarity with the people of Puerto Rico in their effort to de-colonize, and specifically to rid themselves of the Navy at Vieques; and abolition of the death penalty with special focus on the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal on death row in Pennsylvania.
