Human Rights Mobilization

Date:
Friday, July 3, 2009 - 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Location :
DC

Location: THE DC CONVENTION CENTER
801 Mount Vernon Place, NW
Washington, DC 20001

On the eve of America’s Independence Day celebration, American Muslims (with the support of concerned citizens from the non-Muslim community) will spearhead a three-part initiative to draw attention to, and educate the public on, the enormous gulf that still exists between promise and fulfillment, and how this socio-political deficiency within the American body-politic has impacted the Muslim community (globally) post 9/11.

The initiative will begin with a press conference, followed by a rally outside of the convention center. Among the issues that will be addressed: (1) The relentless targeting of Muslim organizations, (2) the insertion of agent-provocateurs into the Muslim community, (3) the oppressive use of “conspiracy law” to impose punishments on Muslim defendants which are often more harsh than what convicted murders receive in U.S. courts; (4) to protest the innocent lives lost (“collateral damage”) to wrong-headed U.S. foreign policy in the so-called war on terrorism; (5) and to protest the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people (especially in Gaza)!

Among the speakers will be FAMILY MEMBERS who have lost loved ones in America through religious profiling, political prosecution and long-term imprisonment!
