Protest against racist firing policies

Stand in solidarity with hundreds of workers on Thursday, July 23rd at
a dinnertime delegation and demonstration at KFC and Taco Bell on the
corner of 14th and U St. NW (1934 14th St NW) at 6:30pm.  Deliver a
message to Yum! Brands to stop anti-immigrant firings of workers with
social security's “no-match” letters!

In the past few months, over 200 Latino workers in the Chicago and
Madison areas have been fired at Yum! Brands restaurants (Pizza Hut,
Taco Bell, and KFC) based on Social Security Administration's (SSA)
‘no-match’ letters. Most of these workers are long-term workers,
in many cases having worked ten years or more.  The ‘no-match’
letters note any differences between the worker’s name and social
security number, a common mistake among the 17 million SSA system
errors, and even the SSA states that an employer should not take
negative action against an employee because of a “no-match”
situation.  This is obviously troublesome as the government looks at
fixing our broken immigration system.

Workers report examples of discrimination against Latinos including a
ban against speaking Spanish (ironically, at a Taco Bell), lower wages
for Latino employees, derogatory language, and discriminatory hiring
practices.

Come out Thursday and demand respectful treatment of all workers and an
end to these unjust firings.  Meet at 6:30pm at 1934 14th St. NW (14th
and U St. NW).
