Hosted by Resist This
Resist This is a collective of trans and queer experienced local activists and out-of-work gravediggers
Pride is a protest. Stonewall was a riot. Homophobia, transmisogyny, racism, xenophobia, and anti-poor sentiment runs through the veins of the current administration, and those of law and border enforcement agencies across the United States. Just as it did in New York City in 1969, when Marsha P. Johnson led our fight back for dignity and justice.
A call has gone out for people to come to DC on June 11 to join an “Equality March for Unity and Freedom”. Statements of queer existence and resistance are urgent and necessary. However, Resist This does not agree that “equality”—within this inherently exploitative, racist, xenophobic, sexist, settler colonial society—is an admirable goal.
Moreover, Resist This is deeply concerned that—even as The Trump administration tears down the veil of “tolerance” and “acceptance” that was draped over the White House during the Obama years—mainstream LBGT rights organizations will continue to “pinkwash” the corporations, state agents and others who actively and purposefully harm our community, by giving them platforms in Pride events.
On Sunday May 7th, members of local LGBT, queer, trans, and ally communities and organizations that share this view are invited to discuss how best to engage with, and respond to events planned for June. The agenda includes:
- NJNP Synapsis
- Working Group Reportbacks
-Working group meetings
