Interfaith Peace Walk to New York for Nuclear Abolition
Important note: The plans for our Peace Walk to NYC are being adjusted in response to developing events, including the historic gathering of heads of state from 44 countries in Washington, DC on April 12-13 for the Nuclear Security Summit convened by President Obama. Please join us in Washington on April 8th for our announcement and press event at Lafayette Park at 12 noon. Details will subsequently be posted on this website about the grassroots peace movement's response to the Nuclear Security Summit, and the path we are traveling from here to global nuclear disarmament and abolition, through the International Convergence for a Nuclear Free, Peaceful, Just and Sustainable World, April 30th to May 2nd in New York City.
This walk will depart Washington, DC on April 8, 2010 and pass through Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia, Princeton, and points between on the way to New York, NY. Participants will walk about 15 miles per day, while meeting, eating and staying with supportive groups and individuals in cities and towns along the way, covering about 250 miles in 21 days.
The objective is to support the United Nations, US President Barack Obama, and over 70% of Americans who want Earth to know "the peace of a world without nuclear weapons," by working towards a solution at the 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review at the UN during May of 2010.
