Hypothermia Season Alert
It is hypothermia season in DC, and these conditions are very dangerous for the District's homeless population. If you see someone who is homeless, please take the time to ask them if they need shelter for the night. The mayor has a hotline that you can call 24 hours a day, where you can coordinate a van to come and pick this person up and take them to a shelter: 1-800-535-7252.
If the person is visibly intoxicated, you should call the Police's non-emergency number: (202) 737-4404. The dispatcher will send officers or fire fighters to make sure that this person gets off the street. Homeless persons that are intoxicated are at the greatest risk for dying of hypothermia.
Bottom line, this is a really dangerous time for folks that are living without shelter. Program those numbers into your phone, and help keep everyone safe this winter.
Thanks!
