Hosanna People's Seminary (HPS) invites you to a learning/teaching circle white privilege and the North American church- yesterday and today!
What: Sharing from anti-racism activists, faith leaders, and you on your experiences with race and the church as well as reflections on suggested reading from What Color is Your God by Columbus Salley and Ronald Behm. (All materials will be offered free of charge from HPS.)
When/Where: Four Tuesdays 7-9PM (2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/2) at rotating faith communities in DC.
2/9: Plymouth Congregational Church with Reverend Graylan Hagler, 5301 North Capitol Street, NE. (See book chapters 1&2: Christianity and Slavery (1619-1863) & Christianity and Segregation (1863-1914).)
2/16: Saint Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church with Reverend Frank Dunn, 1525 Newton Street NW. (See book chapters 3&4: Christianity and Ghettoization: 1914-Present (meaning the 1980s) & Glimpses of the New Identity.)
2/23: Florida Avenue Friends Meeting hosted by the Social Concerns and Action Committee, 2111 Florida Ave. NW. (See book chapters 6&7: What Blacks Must Know about Christianity & What White Christians Must Do with Their Churches.)
3/2: All Souls Church, Unitarian: Conclusions and Looking into the Future.
Cost: This is a FREE course however a suggested donation of $5-15 per session to help our host congregations defer the costs of lights/heat/security would be warmly accepted.
