Building cultural competency is an ongoing journey that nonprofit leaders choose because they know the end result is a more inclusive, connected, and effective organization -- the kind of organization that creates vibrant communities and a just society. In this participatory workshop, rethink your cultural location and the dynamics in your work, then identify practices to reach the highest goals of community-building. The session will be led by co-authors of a book designed to enhance your journey. Through a range of methods their work offers a mosaic of perspectives on cultural competency with a special focus on nonprofits - advocacy groups, unions, churches, schools, health and social services. They deal with America's major fault line - race and ethnicity - with perspectives from major ethnic communities in the United States: (Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian, African American, White, and Latino) and in relation to sexual identity, socioeconomic class, age/generation, geography, disability, and the political spectrum. Attendees receive a complimentary copy of the book! Register here.
