Location :

Location: Sankofa Café [2714 Georgia Ave, Washington, DC].

This Sunday, February 28, the Black August Planning Organization will host its monthly Political Prisoner workshop.  This month, the focus will be on Imam Jamil Al-Amin (H. Rap brown).

Imam Jamil has been a stalwart in the Black Liberation Movement in America as well as the global Human Rights struggle for over four decades.  He has been the Chairman of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee, the Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party, Amir of the Ummah and, therefore, the Imam of several mosques around the country.  He has served in leadership positions of various Muslim organizations, been a facilitator of nation-wide gang truces,
and been an inspiration to countless numbers of people.  Along the way he has incurred the hatred of the US government.  He once topped the FBIs most wanted list and was targeted explicitly by their COINTELPRO operations.

In 2000 he was arrested for allegedly killing a cop.  He was given a life sentence in the State of Georgia.  However, in an unprecedented move of questionable legality, he was transferred from the State of Georgia in the Federal prison system a few years ago.  Since then, he has been housed at ADX Florence (SuperMax) in Colorado.  There he has been subject to 23-24 lockdown in barren isolation chambers in despicable conditions designed not to “rehabilitate” or for “safety”, but only to break the human spirit and will.  For all the might of the US government, this effort has proved an exercise in futility.

Please join us on Sunday.
