Walter Reed Property Available to Service Providers

The decommissioned Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) complex in Northwest DC is undergoing its transition to alternative uses, and federal law requires the Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA) to prioritize potential uses to serve homeless persons. Homeless service providers may be able to apply for receiving buildings on the property for free or little charge. NLCHP is happy to assist providers in developing applications for the property.

The Notice of Interest (NOI) application deadline is 3:00pm (EST) on Friday 3/5/2010.

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center is located at 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20307. The area available for redevelopment appears to be bordered by Dahlia St. NW (which turns into Ambulance Dr. NW) on the north, Georgia Ave NW on the east, Aspen St. NW on the south and 14th St. NW on the west. The Walter Reed Army Medical Center, as a whole, contains 113 acres, 65 buildings, 4,159 parking spaces and 5,630 employees. There are 62.5 acres available for application by interested representatives of the homeless community. Those who are interested in using the property must submit a NOI by Friday March 5, 2010.

More information about the Local Redevelopment Authority and the Walter Reed property are available on the Walter Reed LRA website at www.walterreedlra.dc.gov <http://www.walterreedlra.dc.gov/> . For instructions on how to complete an NOI, go to the Walter Reed LRA website and click on “ WRAMC NOI Instructions.” For more information about Base Closures, go to http://wiki.nlchp.org/download/attachments/65645/BRACToolkitFINAL.pdf?version=1&modificationDate=1196468890000 <http://wiki.nlchp.org/download/attachments/65645/BRACToolkitFINAL.pdf?version=1&modificationDate=1196468890000> to access our Base Closure Toolkit. For more information on the federal base closure program, see our wiki website at: http://wiki.nlchp.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=65642 <http://wiki.nlchp.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=65642> .
