Your right to a good education is under attack. With huge budget shortfalls, public education--from K-12 to community college and universities--faces budget cuts, layoffs, and tuition increases. These cuts hit working people and people of color the hardest.
In DC, 36 percent of all students attend privatized charter schools, while last fall Michelle Rhee and Mayor Fenty cut hundreds of educators and staff from DCPS. Tuition is skyrocketing at UDC, UMD and many public universities in the area, forcing students deeper into debt.
But on March 4th, you can fight back. On that day, in cities across the country, there will be protests, rallies, strikes, and meetings. Students, teachers, labor unions, parents & community members will come together to build a movement to save public education in this country.
The politicians and administrators say there is no money for education and there's "no alternative" to the cuts. But if there’s money for wars, bank bailouts, and prisons, why is there no money for public education? It's time to say enough is enough! Join us to strategize and build this movement in the DC area!
Sponsored by the International Socialist Organization. We are still looking for speakers and group endorsements. To be a part of this event, please contact zach.zill@gmail.com
