Saturday March 20th from 12-2: Grande Nanni of the Maroons: The Mother Of Us All

What better way to celebrate woman’s history month than learning about this historic African queen who worked tirelessly for the freedom of her people and made sure that before she died their songs and stories were preserved forever in her special town in the rain forest of Jamaica?  Grande Nanni, as her people lovingly call her, was the Queen Mother of he Maroon people during the 1700’s.  It is thought that she was born in the late 1600’s in Ghana.  Nana Farika invites you to come and learn about this female chieftain, ritual scientist, military strategist and national heroine of Jamaica who outwitted the British attempts to enslave her people.   Her story of mystery, magic, and victory is important to all freedom loving peoples, and especially for the empowerment of young black women.
