Poor Housing Conditions Are Harmful To Tenants’ Health
Low and moderate income residents of the District of Columbia who are disproportionately impacted by unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions urge the City Council to pass pending healthy housing and tenant protection legislation.
EmpowerDC, a grassroots community organization, will host two “Listening Circle Forums,” March 13th and March 24, 2010, to give low-income tenants living in unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions an opportunity to let their city council representatives know of the urgency of eradicating poor housing conditions, especially by passing currently pending legislation – Omnibus Rental Housing Amendment Act of 2009 – Bill 18-0092, Tenant Protection Act of 2009 – Bill 18-0042 and Tenant Access To Justice Reform Act of 2009 – Bill-18-0104.
All City Council representatives have been invited.
The March 13th “Listening Circle Forum” will be held in conjunction with the Latino Economic Development Corporation’s (LEDC) “Ward 8 Tenant Rights Forum” at the Union Temple Baptist Church, 1225 W Street, SE at 2:30 pm.
The second “Listening Circle Forum” will be held on Wednesday, March 24th at the John Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., NW in room 123, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
All City Council representatives have been invited.
Tenants are urged to come out and tell their stories of living in unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions. Tenants wishing to sign up should call Linda at EmpowerDC at (202) 234-9119.
