"Building Peace by Serving Each Other"

The 2010 Unity Walk  brings people representing scores of organizations, religious groups and diplomatic communities together to join in "unity," building bridges of interfaith understanding and respect.

·      Imagine and Explore:  churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, and Sikh Gurdwaras, opening their doors all along Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, DC, for peace, healing, and understanding.

·      Building Peace by Serving Each Other is the theme of this year's walk.

Since serving others is at the core of all faith traditions, as part of the walk we will highlight service projects; emphasizing youth-led projects  that are aimed at achieving the Millenium Development Goals set by the United Nations by helping our neighbors, our communities, our nations, and our planet.

This year's program will start with an invocation and welcome at the Sikh Temple (3801 Massachusetts Avenue, NW). Participants will then visit open houses of worship in the surrounding area and stop at the community service fair at the Islamic Center. The walk will conclude at the Gandhi Memorial near the Dupont Circle Metro stop on the Red Line.

The Rev. Mpho A. Tutu, daughter of Episcopal Archbishop Desmond Tutu, will speak at this year's Walk.  Rev. Tutu is an Episcopal priest and the founder and Executive Director of the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage.

The emcee and moderator for this year's program is Sister Maureen Fiedler, host of Interfaith Voices, an hour-long radio show.

Other confirmed speakers include: Rabbi Noah Fabricant of Washington Hebrew Congregation; William Aiken, Public Affairs Director of the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist Culture Center; Dr. Adjullah M. Khouj, Director, The Islamic Center of Washington; Rabbi David Schneyer, Founder and Director of Am Kolel; Jay Winter Nightwolf; Host of "American Indians' Truth" radio program; and Clark Lobenstine, Executive Director of the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington.
