Retired US Ambassador John Gunther Dean will address the World Affairs Council- Washington, DC on his latest book, Danger Zones: A Diplomat’s Fight for America’s Interests. A Harvard graduate, Ambassador Dean had an illustrious thirty year diplomatic career, including posts as ambassador to the Khmer Republic, Denmark, Lebanon, Thailand, and India. Ambassador Dean served during critical points in 20th century politics, including Southeast Asia in the 1970s during the Vietnam War.

Ambassador Dean’s book, Danger Zones: A Diplomat’s Fight for America’s Interests, chronicles the experiences and shares the reflections of the renowned ambassador from 1959-1989. The book shares stories from the power struggles in Cambodia, brokering a peace deal in Laos, and surviving an assassination attempt in Lebanon.  Ambassador Dean provides provocative reflections on American and foreign leaders and events during his diplomatic career.
