Walter Reed Vigil
Tomorrow, Friday September 10 marks the eve of Ninth Anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001. Within a month of that day, we were dropping bombs on unarmed civilians in Afghanistan and within a year and half, the US Government was invading Iraq. Then came threats against Iran, and dropping bombs on unarmed civilians in Pakistan.
We are further from a world of peace and understanding, a world of shared resources and dignity for all people than ever. After nine years of continuous war, the payoff is a hateful group of people in this country planning to burn one of the world's significant religious texts. This is what the war comes to--furtherance of hate, intolerance, and madness.
In the meantime, the Walter Reed Vigil is now 5 1/2 years consistently present in the middle of the 7100 block of Georgia Ave NW calling for All Troops Home Now! Participate with us tomorrow, between 7 and 9 PM. The recovering service men and women, the passersby and residents are with us. Even the WR rent-a-cops are with us despite having to put up that ridiculous yellow tape. Our message is terribly important. The troops must come home. The occupations must end. No bases. No contractors. No propped up puppet governments.
