It was developed by Marshall Rosenberg, a psychologist and peace activist who weathered the race riots of Detroit in the 40-50s, studied with Carl Rogers in the 60s and, influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, ML King, Jr and Paulo Freire, wrote Nonviolent Communication, A Language for Life in 2002.
