Title IX is essential for students, and the federal government should continue to enforce it. Since Betsy DeVos was confirmed as the Secretary of Education in February, she has become a major threat to Title IX enforcement. By rolling back Obama’s guidance for trans students, DeVos has began chipping away at the protections provided by Title IX. Now, Trump has nominated two lawyers with disqualifying records, Carlos Muñiz and Candice Jackson, as general counsel and assistant secretary for civil rights respectively. The appointment of Muñiz and Jackson demonstrates a new direction of the Department of Education–one that leaves survivors and other students vulnerable.

Show up to support survivors and to make sure the Department of Ed doesn’t trample on our civil rights! Demand that the Department of Education:
– commit to protecting survivors by enforcing Title IX
– uphold the guidance for all students, including queer, trans, and disabled students
– hire/appoint appropriate legal counsel with track records that demonstrate their support of survivors.

Join up in front of the Department of Education on Friday, April 21st at 1 p.m. to fight for rights. Event will feature several student speakers and speakers from KYIX and other partner organizations.
